Gnanavarsha 2016,  the much awaited Annual Conference of BSOG was organized on 10th and 11th of December2016 at St John’s Medical College Campus, College of Nursing Auditorium. It was an  academic as well as a cultural feast. “Infections in Pregnancy” being the theme, we intended to highlight the lesser discussed but very often encountered  clinical situations in our day to day practice. We brought together the experts- the intensivist, physician, chest physician, gastroenterologist, dermatologist and of course the obstetricians, who deliberated on diagnosis, management and prevention of various infections and  infectious diseases in pregnancy.

More than 200 delegates and 70 faculty participated in the conference. There was an overwhelming response from postgraduates for free papers and poster presentations. There were 16 free papers and 34 poster presentations.

The first session(1hour) on the first day was dedicated to Young Talent Promotion.

The highlight of the conference was the prestigious “Dr Sulochana Gunadheela Oration” which was rendered by none other than Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, Secretary General, FOGSI, which was much appreciated by all. Dr Saccidananda, Director of Medical Education, was the Chief Guest for the Inauguration. Fr Paul Parathazham, Director, and Fr Jesudoss, Associate Director, St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences were the guests of honour.

BSOG appreciated and acknowledged the achievers for the year 2016
Drs Aha, Revathi, Rekah and Shantala for their academic as well as other achievements.

BSOG introduced and gave away cash prizes, from this year, to the member postgraduates who had secured prizes at zonal, State level and National Conferences fro the paper/poster presentations.

The three panel discussions – “Febrile illness in pregnancy”,  “STORCH infections” and Sepsis- medicolegal implications with participation of legal experts were very interactive and were much appreciated . Peppered with these were the Gnanavarsha Oration by the immediate past president, a webinar on management of thyroid disorders in pregnancy and Guest Lectures rendered by reputed faculty.
The Cultural evening saw a good attendance and was enjoyed by all present. To encourage the participation of members and their families, we had organized  singing competition for children (less than 12 years of age) of BSOG members in the light music category, Anthakshari with teams of two, atleast one being a BSOG member and Made for each other contest for couples (Member + spouse) and Audience participation games with attractive prizes.

There were 7 teams for Anthakshari and 4 teams for Made for each other contest. Our enthusiastic members also put up dances and skits to entertain the audience.

The conference was no doubt a very fruitful and a memorable one for all of us at BSOG
