Gnanavarsha 2021



Bangalore Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology conducted the annual event, Gnanavarsha on 28th March 2021, between 8 am to 5 pm at Siddartha hall, Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.

It was a hybrid conference having registration to the strength of 85.

We had 3 sessions of free papers in the morning.

We had received 17 number of free papers and 36 number of posters, all presented by students in different halls.

We had by 4 talks on infertility, all together of one hour duration. Chairpersons for the talk session were Dr. Vidyamani L and Dr. Indira Reddy.

Dr. Soumya Mahesh spoke on “Ovulation Induction”.

Dr. Rekha Rajendrakumar spoke on “Follicular monitoring “.

Dr. Sunitha B delivered her talk on “Preventing and managing OHSS “.

Dr. Hemavathi Srinivasan spoke on “Managing First trimester in ART pregnancies “.

The next session was the prestigious “Sulochana Gunasheela oration” delivered by Dr. Reeta Biliangady, fertility specialist from Bangalore, on “Evolution of Fertility Medicine as a super speciality “. Dr. Padmini Issac, Dr. Devika Gunasheela and Dr. Jyothi Menon chaired this 45 minutes oration.

Next was the inauguration session. We had invited Dr. Vijayalakshmi Balekundri, a renowned pediatric cardiologist as chief guest. She delivered the presidential speech after lighting of the lamp.

As it is customary to us, this time also, we had the wonderful opportunity of honouring two esteemed faculties of our society in the presence of our chief guest. We honoured Dr. Padmini Issac with “Life time Achievement award “ and Dr. Prakash Mehta with “Best Teacher award “. Both were past presidents of our society.

Astra Zeneca Dr. P. R. Desai oration was next event in the row. 3 members of his family, Dr. Kamini Rao, Dr. Mohini Prasad and Dr. Jyothika Desai kindly consented to be the chairpersons of this oration. Dr. Prabha Chandra, consultant Psychiatrist from NIMHANS hospital was the orator and her topic was on “Clinical Conundrums in Perinatal psychiatry – portraits from frontline”.

Immediate post lunch, we had a section on “Treatment of the inconspicuous conditions in pregnancy”, which was GSK sponsored session. Under this, Dr. Prasanna kumar, consultant endocrinologist highlighted on “subclinical hypothyroidism“. Dr. Sheela Mane was the second speaker of this session and she deliberated on “ Asyptomatic bacteruria “. Dr. Gomathy Narayanan, a senior teaching faculty, Dr. Jayanthy T, Professor, KIMS hospital were the chairpersons. This was followed by Q and A session. Both talks were well received by the audience.

As our ordeal, immediate past President of BSOG, Dr. Nagarathnamma R delivered her speech on “ Conquering Challenges towards eliminating cancer cervix “. She explained the various multi-pronged approaches to curb the burning issue. We had Dr. Mohini Prasad, Dr. Thejavathy G V and Dr. Padmini Prasad chairing this session.

Last clinical session of the day was the panel discussion on Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, moderated by Dr. Susheela Rani and Dr, Shobha Gudi. Panellists were Dr. Revathy Rajan, Dr. Mahesh Koregol and Dr. Umadevi Karunakaran. RPL was discussed in great detail.

Prize winners of free paper and poster category were awarded with various prizes in the form of text books. She thanked all the people who contributed in making this conference a great success.
